The Death of I Can’t – NaNoWriMo

Staying hydrated and awake

I was teaching writing workshops last week for children, and it was lovely to see youthful hands flying across notebook pages and hearing the unbridled tales they created. In the bridge between childhood and adult, those treacherous teen years, many of lost that magic and became terribly self critical when putting pen to page. At some point, we started to say, I can’t.
Let’s bring back the joy of free writing this month and dive into the famed NaNoWriMo – National Novel Writing Month. It started in the U.S. but it’s global now (though the map on their home page is sorely underrepresented in Africa outside South Africa): write a draft of a 50,000 word novel in the 30 days of November (which starts today). It will probably be awfsome – awful and awesome – but it might just be what you need to go from I can’t to, just write something already.
Let’s give it a go. It’s all free. Click here for details.
